Cytrellis announced that the FDA has cleared the ellacor system to the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles.

Cytrellis announced that the FDA has cleared the ellacor system, their first propriety product, with micro-coring technology, for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles in the mid to lower face.1 It is a minimally invasive device that removes micro-sized areas of excess skin without surgery, thermal energy, or scarring. The system mechanically removes full-thickness cores of the skin.

“We are thrilled to receive this FDA clearance for our Micro-Coring technology. It is a result of our team’s extensive research and collaboration with leading physicians in the aesthetics industry,” said Karen Cronholm, president and CEO of Cytrellis, Woburn, Massachusetts. “Ellacor is a simple, yet more effective procedure that provides patients and physicians with what they have been asking for: natural looking results.”

The creation of the ellacor system based on the research of William Austen Jr, MD, Boston Massachusetts, and Rox Anderson, MD, FAAD, Boston, Massachusetts. According to Austen, the system can remove as much skin as some surgical procedures without causing scarring to the patient.

“Cytrellis has created a new treatment option for aging skin. For some patients, we can use this technology instead of lasers or conventional surgery, allowing for faster healing time without burns or scarring,” said Anderson, director of the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at MGH and professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School.
